5 of the best places in the Dallas Suburbs
Well, well, well, folks! If you’re on the hunt for a place to call home in the greater Dallas, Texas area, you’ve come to the right doggone place. I may be a Yellow Labrador, but trust me, I’ve got some insider knowledge on the best suburbs in town. So grab your leash, put on your walking shoes.
Plano – Where Schools and Kiddos Rule:

Plano has tons of water parks for kiddos and the family
Let’s start our tail-wagging journey with Plano, shall we? This suburb is like the offensive line (in football terms) of the Dallas suburbs – it’s big and still close to all the action Dallas. Plano’s schools are top-notch, and I’m not just saying that because I’m a dog with a penchant for obedience. The Plano Independent School District (PISD) is famous for its academic excellence. So, if you’ve got little pups in tow, you can rest assured they’ll be barking up the right tree here.
But that’s not all! Plano is also known for its pawsitively fantastic parks. Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, for instance, is a paradise for nature lovers. There are trails to walk, ponds to swim in (if you’re a Lab like me), and even an amphitheater for some howlin’ good entertainment. However, Plano has plenty of other water parks to help you and your kiddos beat the summer heat (I’ve ranked them below):
- Jack Carter Water Park
- Oak Point Water Park
- Windhaven Park, (this is an outdoor splash pad with a dog park next door)
- Plano Acquatic Center
- Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center
Frisco – Where Amenities Are as Abundant as Squirrel Chases:
Next up, Frisco. It’s got more amenities than I have tennis balls, and trust me, I’ve got a lot. This place is growing faster than a Chihuahua’s bark, and it’s easy to see why. This has been one of the best Dallas suburbs for home price appreciation over the last decade.
Frisco boasts a variety of shopping centers, restaurants, and entertainment options. The Stonebriar Centre Mall is the place to be for retail therapy, and the dining scene is so diverse that even the pickiest eaters won’t be disappointed. And if you’re into sports, you’re in luck. The Dallas Cowboys’ swanky headquarters, The Star, is right here in Frisco.
McKinney – Where History Meets Suburban Comfort:
Now, let’s trot over to McKinney, one of the best Dallas suburbs that’s as charming as it is historic. It’s the kind of place where you can sip sweet tea on your porch while your humans chat about the good ol’ days. McKinney is known for its picturesque downtown area, where you’ll find quaint shops, eateries, and that undeniable Texan hospitality.
But don’t let the small-town charm fool you. McKinney’s schools are top-notch, and the city is home to numerous parks and recreational areas, perfect for those long walks with your fur babies.
Allen – Where Everything Is Bigger, Especially the High School Stadiums:

Yes this is really a high school football stadium
Ah, Allen, in this Dallas suburb they take high school football more seriously than I take squirrel-chasing. Seriously, their high school stadium is bigger than most college stadiums. Allen High School’s Eagle Stadium is a $60 million cathedral and a testament to Texas’ love for football. Oh and did I mention that Kyler Murray went to school here.
Aside from football mania, Allen has some fantastic schools, beautiful parks, and enough shopping centers to make your tail wag with delight. Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm is a prime spot for shopping and dining, and Celebration Park is the place to go for outdoor fun with the family.
Southlake – Where Luxury Living Has a Bark and a Bite:
Southlake, oh Southlake. If you’re looking for a suburban paradise where luxury living is the name of the game, you’ve found it. This place is so posh it makes me want to put on a tuxedo and host a fancy dinner party.
The schools in Southlake are excellent, and the community takes education seriously. Carroll Independent School District (CISD) consistently ranks high in state and national rankings. But it’s not just about hitting the books; Southlake Town Square is where the action happens. Upscale shopping, gourmet dining, and a charming town center make Southlake a top choice for those who like the finer things in life.
So there you have it, folks – the best suburbs of Dallas, Texas, according to yours truly. Whether you’re looking for top-notch schools, fantastic parks, or a luxurious lifestyle, the Dallas suburbs have something for everyone.
