December 27, 20239 Tips to get your Home Ready to Show

You want to get your house ready to so buyers will feel at home
Ah, so you’re getting your home ready to sell, and you want to do it on the cheap? Well, as the resident canine expert who has seen more home renovations than you’ve had hot dinners, I’m here to guide you through the dog-eat-dog world of real estate getting your home ready to sell. Let’s dive in with our paws first, shall we?
1. The Magical World of Decluttering
First up, let’s talk about decluttering. As a dog, I firmly believe in the importance of keeping a vast collection of chew toys, but apparently, humans think less is more. So, start by hiding away all those fascinating trinkets and treasures you’ve collected over the years. Yes, even that weird vase Aunt Edna gave you. You want buyers to walk in and imagine their own clutter filling the space, not be distracted by yours.
2. A Fresh Coat of Paint
Next, let’s discuss the wonders of paint. Apparently, slapping a fresh coat of some bland, neutral color on your walls can make your house more appealing. I don’t get it – I thought those scuff marks from my zoomies added character. But hey, if you want to cover up all that personality with ‘eggshell’ or ‘beige,’ who am I to judge?
3. Fix the Little Things
Now, onto repairs. You know those little quirks of your house that you’ve grown to love? The squeaky floorboard, the dripping tap, the door that needs a good shove to close properly? Yeah, it turns out those are not selling points. Who knew? Fixing these little annoyances can make a big difference, and it doesn’t cost much more than a few treats and belly rubs.
4. Curb Appeal – Whatever That Means
Curb appeal is a thing, I’ve heard. It’s all about making your house look pretty from the street. Trim the bushes, mow the lawn, maybe plant some flowers – you know, make it look like a place someone would actually want to live in. As a dog, I’d recommend a nice big tree in the front yard. You know, for… reasons.
5. Staging – Less is More, Again
Staging your home is like setting the stage for a play where the actors are potential buyers and the script is just them walking around saying, “Oh, I could live here.” Move furniture around to make the rooms look bigger and more welcoming. Maybe light a few candles – though, as a dog, I’d prefer if you didn’t. I can’t help you get your home your home ready to sell if there is stuff everywhere.
6. Deep Clean Like Your Mother-in-Law is Visiting
Deep cleaning is crucial. You want your house to shine brighter than my freshly polished collar. Get into every nook and cranny, scrub every surface, and for the love of all things dog, make sure it doesn’t smell like me. I mean, I think I smell great, but I’ve been told not everyone appreciates eau de wet dog.
7. Depersonalize – Bye Bye, Family Portraits
You’ll also want to depersonalize your space. Take down all those family photos and personalized decorations. Yes, even that adorable portrait of me. Potential buyers want to be able to imagine their own family pictures on the walls, not yours.
8. Energy Efficiency – I Guess It’s Important
Making your home more energy efficient is also a plus. Replace old lightbulbs with LED ones, seal up drafty windows, and maybe get that old furnace looked at. It’s not the most glamorous job, but hey, neither is sniffing other dogs’ butts, and I still do it.
9. A Welcoming Entrance – Watch the Tail!
Finally, make sure your entrance is welcoming. A nice doormat (not the one with my face on it), a clean front door, maybe a potted plant or two – something that says, “Welcome! Please buy this house so I can move to a place with a bigger yard.”
And there you have it, folks – a sarcastic dog’s guide to getting your home ready to sell on a budget. Just remember, while you’re busy making all these changes, don’t forget to throw the ball around once in a while. Priorities, right?
